UK refuses visa to Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Islamabad: The British High Commission had refused visa to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, sources said on Friday.

The sources said that the Maulana had applied for the visa on May 15 as he was to participate in a meeting of Jamiat  in the UK.

According to the sources the British High Commission returned his passport with an excuse.

It is to mention here that the United States had also refused to grant visa to the Maulana last year.

The Maulana holds great sway in most of the seminaries of Pakistan’s hardline Deobandi sect and draw political power from  Khber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan.

Islamabad, The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has announced the result of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual Examination 2012 today (June 28).

The result is also available on SMS unified code 5050, candidates are required to send SMS in the following format FB(space)[roll number].

Pepsi, Coca-Cola contain alcohol

London: World’s most consuming soft drinks like Pepsi and Coke contains traces of alcohol, a recent research has revealed.

The research carried out by Paris-based National Institute of Consumption (INC) has revealed that more than half of leading soft drinks, like Coke and Pepsi, contain traces of alcohol, Daily Mail reports.

The revelation will cause concern among those who chose the carbonated soft drink for religious, health or safety reasons.

These include the brand leaders Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola, while it is mainly only cheap supermarket versions of the drink which are alcohol-free.

French magazine `60 Million Consumers,’ published the results of the tests in its latest issue.

They suggest that the alcohol levels are as low as 10mg in every litre, and this works out at around 0.001 per cent alcohol.

But the figures will still be enough to upset the thousands of Muslims who regularly drink Cola because their religion forbids them from drinking alcohol.

Those who are teetotal and drink Coke regularly will also be worried, as will those who choose it as an alternative to alcohol when they are driving.

Of 19 colas tested, the nine which did not contain alcohol were made by brands including Auchan, Cora, Casino, Leader Price and Man U-Cola.

Ten which had traces of alcohol in them included Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola Classic Light and Coke Zero.

Michel Pepin, scientific director for Coca-Cola France, acknowledged that “It is possible that traces of alcohol come from the process” of making Coca Cola according to its secret recipe.

He, however, insisted that Coca-Cola drinks were provably “soft” and recognised as such “by the government authorities in which they are sold.”

“Furthermore, the Paris Mosque has provided us with a certificate stating that our products can be consumed by the Muslim community in line with the religious opinions of the Committee of the Mosque of Paris,” Pepin added.

A spokesman for Pepsi acknowledged that “some soft drinks can contain minute traces of alcohol because of the ingredients used,” although “the Pepsi Cola recipe does not contain alcohol.”

Both companies suggested that natural fruit can ferment and produce minute traces of alcohol.

Survey: Imran Khan most popular leader of Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan is the most popular Pakistani leader with 70% popularity, says a survey from PEW Research Center.

Pakistan Muslims League- Nawaz chief, Nawaz Sharif, is not very far from Khan according to the poll, and has 62% votes in his favour. However, in 2009 survey, Sharif’s popularity was 79%.

Only 14% view Zardari favourably, little changed from last year, but down significantly from 64% in 2008.

Recently disqualified prime minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, proves to be somewhat better at 36% popularity.

About 87% are dissatisfied with the country’s direction, barely changed from last year’s 92%.

Similarly, 89% describe the national economic situation as bad; 85% held this view in 2011. Overwhelming majorities rate unemployment, crime, terrorism, and corruption as very big problems.

More than 50% rate Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry favourably. Ratings for both the army chief and the chief justice have slipped slightly since 2010.

Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf receives relatively poor ratings of 39% favourable.

Meanwhile, the military continues to receive overwhelmingly positive marks from the Pakistani public, with 77% say the institution is having a good influence on the country, while the court system has 58% popularity.

Karachi: Waderai Ka Beta, a song sung by singer, comedian and writer Ali Gul Pir — has become viral on internet these days.

The video of the song, which was released on June 14 on youtube, became an instant hit on social networking sites for its quirky lyrics and got 618,000 hits in less than two weeks.

Ali Gul Pir says the song is a comedy sketch which he created along with his team. Mr Pir has focused the Sindhi feudalist society and criticized it through his funny lyrics. The song starts with his introduction “Akbar Jatoi Jalbari mera naam…Pajero chalana Ayashi mera kam (My name is Akbar Jatoi Jalbari…Drive Pajero and reveling is my work).”

Ban on obscene websites: Internet users decline by 20% in Pakistan

Karachi: It is unfortunate but a harsh reality that indecent content on internet is much popular among internet users of different ages, as it was seen recent that internet users in Pakistan have declined by 15 to 20 percent following the government move to block porn websites.

The internet traffic and connections both were seen at gradual decline after a large number of websites containing indecent material were blocked by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), industry officials said.

Thousands of pornographic websites frequented by Pakistanis were blocked by internet service providers (ISP), following directives issued by the PTA. However it planned to block more than 150,000 websites at services providers-end.

Imran Khan claims Nadra record provided to US

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has accepted that Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Yousaf Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik offered to share personal data of the country’s citizens with United States.

The views were expressed by PTI while giving an exclusive interview to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Khan said that never has any ruling elite betrayed its people as much as Pakistan’s current ruling class.

“This is the most shameful period of our history,” Imran Khan stressed.

It is noteworthy that WikiLeaks divulged an alleged leaked diplomatic cable according to which Pakistan’s the then Prime Minister and Interior Minister visited the US embassy in Islamabad, and offered to share National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) record.

A front company, International Identity Services, was allegedly set up in the United Kingdom to fetch the record of Pakistan’s NADRA, which holds the personal record of the country’s citizens.

When asked about the leaked cable, Khan said “not only have they done this,” but countless people were handed over to the United States on the mere suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities.

“People have disappeared, people are eliminated,” Khan said.

Imran Khan said that no investigation was launched to know whether these people were guilty or innocent.

Quito, Ecuador: WikiLeaks Chief Julian Assange has taken refuge in the South American nation’s embassy in London and is seeking political asylum, Ecuador’s foreign minister Ricardo Patino said.

Ecuador is weighing the request, he added.

The move comes less than a week after Britain’s Supreme Court rejected Assange’s bid to reopen his extradition case, AP reported.

Assange is wanted for questioning in Sweden after two women accused him of sexual misconduct during a visit to the country in mid-2010.

His legal struggle to stay in Britain has dragged on for the better part of two years, clouding his WikiLeaks’ work exposing the world’s secrets.

Mubasher Lucman VS Hamid Mir -- -- After Video Leaked

This is my own interpretation of their messages on twitter and I may be wrong. But here is what I understood. For example look at this tweet.

Hamid Mir said he maid some enemies by speaking truth, and most of the enemies are not journalists. Mubasher replied by saying "Hamid Mir is about to get a taste of his own medicine and very soon". He then asked Dr. Shahid Masood(who is less open/explicit than Mubasher) "Dr. Saheb also has an idea what I am talking about..... Right sir???" But I think Dr. Shahid didn't reply on this tweet.

Here is another tweet where Dr. Shahid admitted that they had a good discussion. I think they must have discussed Hamid Mir.

These tweets suggest that Mubasher and Dr. Shahid have been working on something related to Hamid Mir. May be collecting some sort of evidence against him.


Now, as I was anxiously waiting for Mubasher to tell us what is he cooking, so was HussanIQ. He asked Mubasher to name those journalists in our media and this time Mubasher named Hamid Mir explicitly! Have a look at this tweet.

Here Mubasher clearly says that Hamid Mir lied about interview of OBL. All he has is just a photo. In another tweet he says that he confirmed it with some 'very close circles' today! I wonder if this one of the 'close circle' persons is Dr. Shahid? Maybe maybe not! :)

The Supreme Court has declared ruling of the Speaker National Assembly in contempt of court case is null and void and disqualified Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
 
In its judgement pronounced a short while ago‚ the three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary‚ said the office of the Prime Minister stands vacant since 26th of April this year when the apex court gave its verdict in contempt of court case.

Malik Riaz’s “Bahria Town Titanic” begins to sink

Lahore: After launching an attack on Pakistan’s independent judiciary, which is termed the last hope for the people of country, Bahria Town Titanic now seems to be sinking, commented an Urdu language newspaper Nai Baat in its report over the business of real estate tycoon Malik  Riaz.

According to the report, prices of plots in Bahria Town schemes are on declined while several clients are willing to sell their pieces of land.

The report said for the first time in the history of Bahria Town loadshedding has also been witnessed, adding that  some residents altercated with the staff over the power outages.
