A strange bright object with a trail of
smoke was spotted over Saudi Arabia on Thursday night after it was seen
over Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Jordan.
Some said it could be a UFO while others
believed it a meteor. The spotting came amidst reports that Russia was
testing an intercontinental rocket.
A U-Tube film lasting more than two
minutes showed the bright white object was travelling at high speed over
Saudi Arabia just after reports said hundreds of frightened Israelis
called the police to say they saw a strange light shining in the sky.
Press reports in Lebanon and Jordan said the object was also seen there.
The sighting came amidst reports by the Russian media that Moscow launched
an intercontinental Topol rocket at 21:39 (Moscow hour) in Astrakhan.
One report said this version is not
ruled out because Russia usually reacts this way to most important
international events which touch upon its interests.
The reports were referring to possible
Western military intervention in conflict-hit Syria, a plan strongly
opposed by Russia and China.
Lebanese media also reported an
unidentified object was seen in the country’s skies and along the border
with Israel. One report said that the glowing object may have been a
meteorite that crashed into the atmosphere. The object was also seen
over Iran, Cyprus, Turkey and Armenia.
In Moscow, channel 2 News reported that
the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday evening that it
successfully launched a ballistic nuclear missile as part of an
experiment in Kazakhstan.
In Saudi Arabia, police and newspapers
were flooded with calls saying they have sighted a strange glowing
object with a trail of smoke stretching nearly two km.
“Police and border guard units were seen
rushing to the border with Jordan but the object later disappeared,”
the Saudi Arabic language daily Sharq said.
