Gilani disqualified as prime minister: SC

“Yousaf Raza Gilani is disqualified from membership of parliament from April 26, the date of his conviction. He has also ceased to be the prime minister of Pakistan,” said Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry

The short order was announced in NA Speaker's ruling case today.


The Supreme Court has declared ruling of the Speaker National Assembly in contempt of court case is null and void and disqualified Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
 
In its judgement pronounced a short while ago‚ the three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary‚ said the office of the Prime Minister stands vacant since 26th of April this year when the apex court gave its verdict in contempt of court case.

    Islamabad: As the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and ruled that the office of the prime minister fell vacant since April 26, when he was convicted by the seven member bench of apex court for not implementing court orders of writing letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
