Shab-e-Meraj-un-Nabi (PBUH) being observed today

Karachi: Shab-e-Meraj (Night of Ascent) is being observed on Sunday night across Pakistan with great respect and religious zeal.

Muslims observe the night on every year on 27th Rajab of Islamic calendar to mark a special journey the Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) made to meet Allah Almighty.

People hold special programmes of Mehfil-e-Naat and prayers, and decorate mosques. People offer special prayers for the whole night.

The Meraj is part of the journey of the Prophet (PBUH) from Makkah to the mosque of Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem (Bait-ul-Mqaddas) where he led other prophets in prayer.

He then started the journey to heaven, touring seven circles of the heaven where he met all the earlier prophets (peace be upon them).

The Prophet (PBUH) was then taken to Sidrat al-Muntaha in the seventh heaven that Gabriel was not allowed to pass.

According to Islamic tradition, five obligatory prayers were ordained by the God during the night.
